Day 25 of MnCAN’s 30 Days of Life with Aphasia — Meet Kathy!

Kathy is a newer member of one of our conversation groups, and from the moment she joined, she has brought smiles, warmth, and unwavering perseverance. She was a little nervous at first, as so many people are when stepping into something new,  but she has since nestled in with such ease and openness.

While she wants  you to know that “aphasia is the pits!”, Kathy shows up every single week with remarkable resilience. Like many of our participants, conversation can be challenging and discouraging at times. But Kathy never quits. She keeps trying, keeps showing up, and keeps giving her best.

Her conversation group has had the privilege of meeting several of Kathy’s family members and their presence is such a gift. They are a wonderful support system! They are always encouraging, patient, and help her to stay connected. Their involvement reflects how care partners strengthen communication journeys and how meaningful it is when loved ones walk alongside someone living with aphasia.

Her determination lifts the whole group. She encourages others, celebrates their efforts, and reminds everyone that progress is built one brave attempt at a time. Kathy’s presence is an example of how community connection fuels resilience and how shared support can transform the aphasia journey.

We’re so grateful she’s part of the MnCAN community.
