Day 21 of MnCAN’s 30 Days of Life with Aphasia — Meet Sara!
Â
Sara joined MnCAN in 2024 as a co-facilitator for our Care Partner Support Group and has quickly become an invaluable part of our community. As a licensed social worker with extensive experience supporting individuals and families affected by brain injury and stroke through her work at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute, Sara brings a wealth of knowledge, compassion, and insight to every group she leads.
Â
Sara has a unique ability to bring both levity and a calming presence to conversations that are often emotional, difficult, and deeply personal. In addition to supporting our Care Partner Support Groups, she now also helps facilitate our PPA support groups, providing guidance and support to families navigating the challenges of Primary Progressive Aphasia.
Â
Working alongside our speech-language pathology facilitators, Sara helps create a balanced approach that addresses not only communication challenges related to aphasia and PPA, but also the emotional and practical realities families face. From changes in relationships and family roles to financial concerns, caregiving responsibilities, and shifts in independence, Sara helps care partners develop strategies, build resilience, and feel less alone on their journey.
Â
We are incredibly grateful for Sara’s warmth, expertise, and dedication to supporting the entire family unit.
Â
Thank you, Sara, for helping make MnCAN a place of understanding, connection, and hope.
