Day 14 of 30 Days of Life with Aphasia – Meet Jeff!

Day 14 of MnCAN’s 30 Days of Life with Aphasia — Meet Jeff!

Jeff is a perfect example of how many people first come to MnCAN. Often, a speech-language pathologist recommends MnCAN as a next step after therapy—or as a complement to ongoing therapy—but many people are understandably hesitant to join.

That was true for Jeff. He decided to give MnCAN a try, though he often tells his group, “I didn’t think I needed this kind of thing.”

Now, many sessions later, Jeff shares each week how much he looks forward to seeing his new friends. He enjoys the conversations, the encouragement, and the sense of belonging he has found through the group. He also feels that continuing to practice his communication skills in a supportive environment has helped him make even more progress.

But perhaps even more meaningful than what Jeff has gained is what he gives back to others. Not only does he find the weekly conversations life-enhancing, but watching the friendships he has built and the care he takes to include and support others in his group is truly priceless. Jeff is often one of the first to notice when someone is struggling, encourage participation, or make sure everyone feels welcome. His kindness, empathy, and protectiveness toward his fellow group members embody exactly what MnCAN is all about.

Jeff’s story reminds us that aphasia recovery is about more than speech and language. It’s about connection, confidence, friendship, purpose, and belonging. We are so grateful that Jeff took that first step and became part of the MnCAN family.

Jeff’s story reminds us that aphasia recovery is about more than speech and language. It’s about connection, confidence, friendship, and having a community that understands. We are so grateful that Jeff took that first step and became part of the MnCAN family.
