February is Black History Month
Please join us as we honor Black History Month by working to spread awareness regarding aphasia—and its frequently resulting isolation—in the black community. Black people are at a greater risk than white people of suffering from stroke, which is the primary cause of aphasia.
If you want to help make a difference, check out this important webinar from the NAA, “Clinical Diversity Issues in Aphasia,” on Thursday, February 29 from 6-7pm CST.

What year did you join MnCAN? February of 2022 What are your hobbies and interests? "Shopping, classes at the gym, walking with my dog Carleigh, cooking, hanging out with my family and friends and biking." What do you enjoy most about MnCAN? "Talking to the participants that had a stroke, like me!!! Also, my friends, Gina and Kolyn!" What do you want people to know about aphasia?
"Aphasia it is a language disorder that affects people that had a stroke. But that doesn’t mean that we don’t know what you’re talking about or want to answer. Because we do… for me it just takes time trying to answer. But it’s OK. I am here and now I can talk, read, and spell, really good. Thank you, Jesus!" |

Program Update
Our winter/spring session started in January/February and we love being back together with our groups after a short break over the holidays! This session we have over 110 community connection opportunities for people with aphasia across our 18 groups. We also have monthly support groups to offer connection for our care partners, young adults and families with primary progressive aphasia. We welcomed 15 new participants already this year! We LOVE this community and feel so grateful to be a part of your journey. |
